Plants vs. Zombies

The Challenge

Manage the runaway success of an indie PC title that took casual games to new heights. Plants vs. Zombies asked NoodleHaus to create content to keep up with demand. The game was quickly turning into a franchise. We had to help it grow in new directions as it launched on new platforms, grew sequels, and planned for years of new expansion.

The Campaign

NoodleHaus was brought into the mix as PopCap and EA needed an agency to help create a brand from the original game. We created a style, voice, and mythology for the PvZ universe that extended into Plants vs. Zombies 2, Plants vs. Zombies Adventures, and Plants vs. Zombies Garden Warfare. Our work spanned across game and marketing disciplines with trailers, short ads, game stories, character development, and music that was macabre and goofy. Our crafting of several game stories included the game story for Plants vs. Zombies 2 that took players through a variety of Ages, including the wild west, ancient Egypt, and anywhere else we thought cool Zombies might live.

 

Diving deep into each character’s back story allowed us to unearth their primal desires (like tacos) and present the opportunity to destroy humanity’s greatest achievements. Or perhaps just eat brains. Our work with Crazy Dave and Doctor Zomboss became the foundation for years of motivation for these characters to grow into new games and markets.
